Ink it! Stamp it! Design Team Blog Hop | Theme: Technique

Welcome to the Ink it! Stamp it! Blog Hop. This month we will be sharing projects created using a paper crafting technique. The full line up below will guide you through all the projects and we'd love to hear from you on what your favourite crafting technique is or something that you really want to try out.

My card today had its colour palette inspired by the latest Colour INKspiration #37 Colour Challenge.
The challenge was to pick any 3 colours from the revamped "Brights" Colour Family.

The Brights are my favourite colour family, so I was really excited to participate in this challenge.

I couldn't help myself and chose to use my all time favourite colour - Blue. The blues used in my project are Coastal Cabana (a returning colour), Bermuda Bay & Pacific Point.

The technique I want to share with you today is "Masking".

Here is a quick photo tutorial on how I made this card:

To start off my card I stamped the sentiment, from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, in Pacific Point ink on a Whisper White cardstock layer.

I then cut a piece of scrap paper (actually it is a scrap of the brown packing paper that comes in my Stampin' Up! deliveries - that stuff is soooo good, I use it for everthing), and placed it across the top of my sentiment and fastened it with a bit of washi tape.

(Handy tip: Make sure the washi is holding the scrap and the cardstock layer in place otherwise your pieces may move around).

Next step was to stamp my leaves (also from the Rooted in Nature stamp set) over the top, using the scrap paper to keep the section underneath white. I inked up the small leaf in Coastal Cabana and the larger leaf in Bermuda Bay.

You might need to move the washi tape around a little bit to enable you to stamp all the way to the edges.

Once done, remove the scrap paper to reveal your masked section - a white strip across the card that highlights the sentiment.

To finish off my card, I embossed and die cut out 3 leaves using the embossing die and co-ordinating framelit from the Natures Roots Framelits. The large leaf is Pacific Point and the smaller leaves are Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.

Here is a quick overview Masking tutorial pic you can pin or save for later :)
