Ink & Share Blog Hop | Theme: Masculine

Hello and thanks for stopping by :)

Today I am participating in the Ink & Share Blog Hop, where every month a number of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from around the world hop together to share our creations to help inspire you in your paper crafting journey. My name is Kirsten, and I am from Canberra, Australia. "G'Day" :)

For todays hop we will be sharing our projects inspired by this months theme: Masculine

I decided to find inspiration for my card layout from the latest Inspire. Create. Sketch Challenge #023

I found this a great challenge as it prompted me to pull out a couple of sheets from the Wood Textures DSP pack that I hadn't used yet. #loveitchopit

Don't forget the Buy 3 Get 1 Free DSP sale ends soon (31st July) and this DSP Pack is 1 of the 10 available as part of this offer. So if you like free DSP, make sure you check out this sale offer before it is too late.

I created 2 cards, a portrait version and a landscape version so I could use up all the DSP rectangles I'd cut out.

My card base is Very Vanilla and my sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso onto a Very Vanilla cardstock strip.

I knew I wanted to make birthday cards (as my stash of masculine birthday cards is at dangerously low levels) and I found I didn't have any really masculine birthday sentiments in my stash of current stamp sets, so I went with my go to set for this kind of situation: Labeler Alphabet.

I felt my card needed something extra so I inked up the 2 leaf stamps from the Rooted in Nature stamp set and used Crumb Cake on the small leaf and Early Espresso on the larger one. They were then cut out using the co-ordinating Natures Roots framelits.

Masculine cards can be tricky, but I think these have just the right amount of detail. Nothing too fancy, but not too plain :)

Thanks so much for your support and for visiting me today :)

Sunshine Wishes | Aussies Who Love Stampin' Up! Challenge #010

Hi and thanks for visiting :)

Our latest fortnightly challenge over on the Aussies Who Love Stampin' Up! Facebook Group is here.

Our tenth challenge #AWLSU010 is an Image Inspiration Challenge.

You can take any inspiration you like from the below image. It could be the theme, picture, colours etc.

Myself and the other group admins will share our creations to start off each challenge and hopefully help kick-start and inspire your creativity.

If you live in Australia and are interested in participating in our fortnightly challenges, click here to join the group :)

My card was also inspired by this weeks Paper Players Clean & Simple Challenge #402

**********

I took colour inspiration from our image and combined it with a negative space from die cutting the word "sunshine" from the Sunshine Wishes Dies.

I created a rainbow of colours with 1cm strips of cardstock using Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Pool Party, Pacific Point and Night of Navy. These were stuck down diagonally on a piece of paper and then trimmed around the edges.

My Whisper White strip with the sunshine negative was adhered over the top. The final touch was adhering the small loose pieces from the die cut word.

This was a fairly simple no stamp card and I hope it brightens your day :)

Thanks so much for your support and for visiting me today :)

Ink it! Stamp it! Design Team Blog Hop | Theme: Technique

Welcome to the Ink it! Stamp it! Blog Hop. This month we will be sharing projects created using a paper crafting technique. The full line up below will guide you through all the projects and we'd love to hear from you on what your favourite crafting technique is or something that you really want to try out.

My card today had its colour palette inspired by the latest Colour INKspiration #37 Colour Challenge.
The challenge was to pick any 3 colours from the revamped "Brights" Colour Family.

The Brights are my favourite colour family, so I was really excited to participate in this challenge.

I couldn't help myself and chose to use my all time favourite colour - Blue. The blues used in my project are Coastal Cabana (a returning colour), Bermuda Bay & Pacific Point.

The technique I want to share with you today is "Masking".

Here is a quick photo tutorial on how I made this card:

To start off my card I stamped the sentiment, from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, in Pacific Point ink on a Whisper White cardstock layer.

I then cut a piece of scrap paper (actually it is a scrap of the brown packing paper that comes in my Stampin' Up! deliveries - that stuff is soooo good, I use it for everthing), and placed it across the top of my sentiment and fastened it with a bit of washi tape.

(Handy tip: Make sure the washi is holding the scrap and the cardstock layer in place otherwise your pieces may move around).

Next step was to stamp my leaves (also from the Rooted in Nature stamp set) over the top, using the scrap paper to keep the section underneath white. I inked up the small leaf in Coastal Cabana and the larger leaf in Bermuda Bay.

You might need to move the washi tape around a little bit to enable you to stamp all the way to the edges.

Once done, remove the scrap paper to reveal your masked section - a white strip across the card that highlights the sentiment.

To finish off my card, I embossed and die cut out 3 leaves using the embossing die and co-ordinating framelit from the Natures Roots Framelits. The large leaf is Pacific Point and the smaller leaves are Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.

Here is a quick overview Masking tutorial pic you can pin or save for later :)
