Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with special guest - Tami White

Welcome and thank you for joining me in a special Crazy Crafters team blog hop.

We are hopping with a special guest - The talented Tami White.

The theme of this blog hop was to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) one of Tami's cards.

Here is the card of Tami's that I chose to CASE:

I've been wanting to try my hand at a shaker card for ages. And what better reason is there to give it a try, than for my youngest son's 4th birthday. To checkout Tami's card in more detail click here.

Here is my version:

As my card is for a 4 year old I wanted something bright, so I decided on a colour combination of Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight & Pumpkin Pie.

I sketched out a layout and after checking out actual sizes of the framelits I wanted to use, I decided that I needed to make a bigger than usual card - so I went with a 6" x 6" square card.

I cut a 15cm x 15cm square from an A4 sheet of Whisper White. Then using my Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight & Pumpkin Pie ink pads, some sponge daubers and the Stars mask from the Hearts & Stars Decorative Masks set, I created the stars background.

Using the 2 largest framelits from the Stars set, my magnetic platform & Bigshot, I cut out the star outline using Pumpkin Pie cardstock. The number 4 was cut from Daffodil Delight cardstock using the Large Numbers framelits and the Happy is cut from Tempting Turquoise cardstock using the Hello You thinlits.

I stamped the Birthday sentiment from the Number of Years stamp set in Tempting Turquoise onto some Whisper White and cut it out using the banner from the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits and my magnetic platform to help line it up.

I created my own star confetti by punching out a bunch of stars using the Confetti Stars Punch and some Tempting Turquoise, Daffodil Delight & Pumpkin Pie cardstock.

When I had worked out the location for the star on the front of the card, I marked the area I would need to cut so I could still use the middle of the star background for the back of the shaker. I then cut it out carefully with a sharp blade.

Next I adhered the Pumpkin Pie star to the front of the card using Tombow glue, ensuring I was covering up the star shaped hole I had cut out. Flipping the card front over, I then cut a piece of window sheet that was bigger than the star and adhered it using Fast Fuse.

I then placed foam adhesive strips on to the window sheet using the star shape as a guide, making sure I left no gaps for the confetti to escape.

Using the star shape I cut from the star background card front, I lined up the coloured stars so they were going in the same direction as the card front and then I adhered my die cut number "4" with a little Tombow and then stamped the "TH" (also from the Number of Years stamp set) in Daffodil Delight next to it.

With my card front still upside down I placed all my star confetti in the foam edged star and then stuck the centre star (with the 4 on it) on to the foam strips. Now the tricky shaker part was done.

I stuck down the 'happy" die cut using tiny dots of Tombow to the front of my card. I decided I wanted the Birthday banner to stand out a bit so I curled it with my fingers and adhered it with a piece of the foam strip under the "th" in Birthday to make it stand out and a bit of fast fuse under the 2 spots where it touches the card front.

Lastly for my card base I cut a 12" x 12" piece of Whisper White card stock in half and scored it in the middle. I cut a few more little squares from the foam strips and used these around the edge of the card front, plus a small bit of fast fuse in the middle of the star (for extra hold power) and attached it to my card base.

.....and.... voila, my first shaker card complete. Pretty happy with my first attempt and I think I'll be making more of these as they are such a fun card for someone to receive.

Wedding Congratulations | Stamp, Ink, Paper Challenge #57 : Black & White

Today I am sharing a wedding card I made for some friends.

My card was inspired by the wedding invite and fits in nicely with this weeks Stamp, Ink, Paper Black & White colour challenge #57.

Here is my card:

My card uses Whisper White & Basic Black cardstock along with a small piece of black & white Damask patterned paper I had lying around that was as close to the pattern on the invite as I could find.

The LOVE sentiment comes from the retired Seasonally Scattered stamp set and was stamped in Versamark on to some black cardstock, then heat embossed using white embossing power.

Using a set of Sizzix decorative frames framelits, magentic platform & Big Shot, I cut out the heat embossed black cardstock and another in white cardstock using the next size up framelit. I adhered the 2 together with Snail adhesive.

I adhered the strip of Damask patterened paper to the bottom half of my black card front piece using Snail adhesive and then hid the joint with a piece of white satin ribbon.

I then centred and adhered the decorative frame to the card front using more Snail adhesive. The card front was then adhered to the white card base.

I decorated the envelope using the Damask style heart from the retired I {Heart} Hearts stamp set using Tuxedo Memento Black ink.

Happy 6th Birthday | Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge #308

My oldest son has just turned 6 and when I was trying to create his Birthday card, I found I was suffering a creative mind block (or should I say creative overflow, as I had so many ideas running around in my head that I couldn't make them come together into a card).

I decided to checked out the current creative challenges for some inspiration. This weeks Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge #308 was perfect, as it gave me a starting place to channel some of my ideas into.

Here is my card:

I originally started out using a different DSP and colour scheme, but after cutting all my pieces I found the colours I'd chosen didn't pop like I wanted the card to do. The scheme just seemed a bit dull and boring, so I went back to the drawing board and found a new colour scheme, which I was much happier with.

So in the end I went with Whisper White, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight and the retired Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper.

So to start off, I used my Squares Collection framelits to cut a square of the striped sheet from the DSP pack so the lines were diagonal. I used Snail adhesive to mount it to a piece of Pacific Point cardstock and then trimmed it down, leaving more space at the bottom for my sentiment.

Using my Ovals Collection framelits, the Large Numbers framelits and my magnetic platform, I lined up the number framelit inside the oval framelit and cut it out in one go from a piece of Pacific Point cardstock. Using a scrap of Whisper White cardstock I cut another oval using the next size down framelit in the set. I then lined up the smaller oval in the centre of the Pacific Point oval to act as a backing for the number 6. I then secured these together using a bit of sticky tape on the underside. Using a little Tombow glue I attached the loose bit of the 6 and put a drop under the top middle part of the 6 so it wouldn't lift up.

The "Happy Birthday" sentiment and the "TH" all come from the Number of Years Stamp Set. These were stamped on Whisper White cardstock in Pacific Point ink. I also framed the "TH" using the little banner outline from the same stamp set. The "TH was cut out using the small banner from the Large Numbers framelit set and the Happy Birthday sentiment was cut out using the long banner from the Gift Card Envelope & Trims thinlits set. My magnetic platform helped me line up and centre the framelits over the stamped sentiments. I then adhered the sentiment banners using Snail.

The large piece of Pacific Point cardstock was then adhered to my Whisper White card base using more snail adhesive.

This was going to be the finished card, but it looked like it needed a little something extra. I created a card last week for my brother (check it out here), which had a balloon in the top corner of the card. I decided to do the same for this card, but I used Daffodil Delight cardstock and plain white twine instead. I mounted the balloon with dimensionals to the top corner of the card and fixed the string to the front of the card using a few small drops of Tombow glue underneath the string line and placed one of my clear stamping blocks on top till the glue dried.

All done. My son loved his card and I hope you do to :)

Here is a list of the supplies and tools used to create this card:

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with special guest - Tracy May

Welcome and thank you for joining me in a special Crazy Crafters team blog hop.

We are hopping with a special guest - The talented Tracy May.

The theme of this blog hop was to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) one of Tracy's cards.

Here is the project of Tracy's that I chose to CASE:

I love butterflies and this treat bag stood out to me as I was looking through Tracy's creations. And I thought, I can make this into a card. To checkout Tracy's project in more detail click here.

Here is my version:

A colour I have recently fallen in love with is Bermuda Bay, so I decided to use it for my card.

My card base is Whisper White cardstock with a strip of Bermuda Bay adhered with Snail to the middle.

I used another strip of Whisper White cardstock, my Bermuda Bay ink pad and the Butterflies stamp from the Perpetual Birthday Calendar stamp set, to create the random butterfly pattern. I then used the Triple Banner Punch to punch both ends of the strip. This was then adhered to the Bermuda Bay strip with Snail adhesive.

Using some Bermuda Bay cardstock, the Butterflies Thinlits set & my magnetic platform, I cut out the middle sized butterfly. Using the matching sized butterfly from the Bold Butterfly Framelits set, I cut out a plain background butterfly in Whisper White. I grabbed a small piece of my Bermuda Bay Taffeta Ribbon and my handheld stapler,  then lined up the 2 butterfly die cuts and placed the ribbon at the back and then stapled them all together. To hide the staple I found a couple of stick on rhinestones that were a close colour match to Bermuda Bay. I attached the butterfly to the front of my card using some strong craft glue.

My sentiment comes from the Butterfly Basics stamp set and was framed using a stamp from the Rose Wonder stamp set. This was then cut out using the co-ordinating die from the Rose Garden thinlits set. The sentiment was adhered to the card front using dimensionals to make it stand out.

The card didn't start out in my head the way it ended up, but I am happy with how it turned out. I hope you like my card.

Here is a list of the supplies and tools used to create this card:

Whisper White A4 Cardstock (106549)
Bermuda Bay A4 Cardstock (131286)
Bermuda Bay Classic Stampin' Pad (131171)
Perpetual Birthday Calendar Stamp Set (Photopolymer 137167)

Happy 21st Birthday! | Pals Paper Arts #307 & Mojo Monday #455

So my little brother is turning 21 soon, and I decided to let a couple of card challenges help shape the Birthday card I created for him.

I used the Pals Paper Arts colour challenge # 307 and the Mojo Monday sketch challenge #455 as inspiration for my card.

My card also fits in nicely with this weeks Global Design Project #043 Party Theme Challenge.

Here is what I came up with:

The base of my card uses Whisper White card stock, and I cut a square of Night of Navy using my Squares collection framelits. Using the new Large Numbers framelits and my magnetic platform, I cut out 21 from the middle of the square.

I then cut out a balloon in Real Red using the Balloon framelits set. I placed the framelit over the edge of the cardstock so I wouldn't need to trim the top & side of the balloon.

My sentiment comes from the Number of Years stamp set and was stamped in Night of Navy onto some Pool Party cardstock. I then used my banner framelits & magnetic platform to cut out the sentiment.

I adhered the Navy square to the card front using a combination of Snail adhesive and Tombow. I placed a strip of Pool Party washi tape across the top of the Navy square. I then tied a bit of red & white twine I had lying around to the bottom of the balloon cut out. Using some Snail I then adhered the sentiment banner and the balloon to the card. I decided to add a little extra piece of washi tape at the bottom to help hold the balloon string in place along with a tiny dot of tombow under the twine in the middle. All finished :)

I am hoping my brother will like his card.

Here is a list of the supplies and tools used to create this card:

Whisper White A4 Cardstock (106549)
Night of Navy A4 Cardstock (106577)
Real Red A4 Cardstock (106578)
Pool Party A4 Cardstock (124391)
Night of Navy Classic Stampin' Pad (126970)
Number of Years Stamp Set (Photopolymer 140653)
Squares Collection Framelits (130921)
Large Numbers Framelits (140622)
Balloon Framelits (137362)
Banners Framelits (132173)
Magnetic Platform (130658)
Snail Permanent Adhesive (104332)
Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755)
Pool Party Washi tape
Red & White twine

Crazy Crafters Blog Hop with special guest - France Martin

Welcome and thank you for joining me in a special Crazy Crafters team blog hop.

We are hopping with a special guest - The talented France Martin aka Frenchie.

The theme of this blog hop was to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) one of Frenchie's cards.

Here is the card of Frenchie's that I chose to CASE:

I chose this card because it is using one of my favourite stamp sets, I just love the flowers from this set. And..... I am a bit of a pretty patterned paper hoarder ...ahem... "collector" (I am sure a lot of you out there know what I am talking about), so I need to find ways to start using my papers and this card fits the bill. To checkout Frenchie's card in more detail click here.

Because I love this stamp set so much, I couldn't choose which image I wanted to use so I ended up making a card for each stamp in the set.

Here are my versions:

Melon Mambo

Calypso Coral

Daffodil Delight

Wild Wasabi

To create my cards I started out by stamping all the images from the Remarkable You stamp set on some Whisper White cardstock. I used Memento Tuxedo Black for the 3 flower images and Garden Green for the leaf/branch image. I then chose my colour schemes based on my Blendabilities markers collection - I went with Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi. Using the Dark, Medium & Light markers in each colour set, I coloured my images. I used the Medium Wild Wasabi to colour the flower stems.

Once I'd coloured my images, I searched my vast collection of stamp sets for some nice sentiments. The sentiments helped me decide which shape I would use to cut out each image. I wanted each card to be a little different so I went with a square, circle, rectangle & oval. To cut out the square, circle & oval, I used the relevant framelit set, magnetic platform & big shot. And to cut out the rectangle, I used my paper trimmer.

Once cut out, I stamped the sentiment on each using the same ink colour as the Blendabilities markers used, except for the leaf/branch image where I used the same colour ink that I stamped the image in (Garden Green).

My sentiments all came from different sets. The sentiment on my Melon Mambo card came from the retired Floral Wings stamp set, the Calypso Coral sentiment came from the retired Simply Wonderful SAB stamp set, the Daffodil Delight sentiment is from the current Butterfly Basics stamp set and the sentiment on my Wild Wasabi card came from the retired Good Greetings stamp set.

I love to use up my scrap cardstock (another thing I like to keep, all on the off chance it will come in handy), and I found a few strips of Whisper White that were all the same width (4.5cm) so they helped me decide how wide my DSP strips would be. So I then went to my Designer Series Paper stacks and found my matching colours. I chose a different DSP pattern for each card. I cut a 4cm strip of each DSP and mounted it on to the Whisper White strips using Snail adhesive.

I prepared 4 card bases using the matching coloured cardstock for each image and then mounted the white & DSP strip to the matching card front using Snail adhesive. Lastly I mounted the cut out images on top using more Snail adhesive. All finished!

I really like the boldness of these cards and I may need to make lots more, as I have a very large DSP collection that I would like to make a bit smaller ;)

I can't choose a favourite, I love them all.

Which is your favourite?        (if you can choose just one :) )

Mojo Monday # 453 | Card Sketch Challenge

In my previous post I mentioned that I'd set myself a challenge to use up, or at least make a dent in my vast collection of Designer Series Paper.

Also in my last post, I shared 2 cards I had made out of the pack of DSP I had opened and I promised to share more cards made from the same pack of DSP.

Well here is a card I created with the Mojo Monday Card Sketch Challenge # 453 in mind.

Here is my card:

Now even though this sheet of DSP is also from the Birthday Basics pack, this card is vastly different to my last 2 cards. (Don't forget this retired DSP is currently available in the Clearance Rack for a bargain price of $7.59 per pack, which is 60% off, so grab some now before it runs out).

Another challenge I have given myself is attempting to use each stamp set I own at least once. I have lots of sets (most of which are either just retired or retired some time ago) that I've been meaning to use, but just haven't gotten around to using yet. I figure if I can't come up with a card design/idea for a set, then that will help me decide which ones I keep and which ones I need to let go of.

Taking in to account my stamp set challenge, I grabbed out the beautiful Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set, as I've been meaning to use that lovely rose image.

I found the Raspberry Ripple flower sheet in the DSP pack and thought it would work well with the rose image. So I stamped the Rose on a sheet of Whisper White cardstock using my Raspberry Ripple ink pad. I then cut out the rose using a square framelit from the Squares Collection set. To give the square a bit of a border, I used one of the templates from the paper piercing Essentials pack, a piercing tool and piercing mat to create the dotted border.

I then cut 2 card front layers from some Whisper White and Raspberry Ripple cardstock. Using Snail adhesive I stuck down a strip of the flower pattern DSP at an angle onto the Whisper White layer and trimmed the edges off. Using the same line as the DSP strip, I adhered some of my Raspberry Ripple stitched satin ribbon with some double sided tape and folded the edges underneath. Using Snail again I centred the rose on top of the DSP & ribbon stripes.

For the flag at the bottom of the card, I just used a small strip of the same DSP and punched the end using the Triple Banner punch. The sentiment, also from the Fifth Avenue Floral set, was stamped in Raspberry Ripple on Whisper White cardstock and cut out using my extra large oval punch. Both pieces were then adhered to the card front using Snail.

To finish off the card I layered the white card front on to the Raspberry Ripple piece and then both on to the Whisper White card base.

I'll be sharing more of my creations using this designer series paper pack soon.

Here is a list of the supplies and tools used to create this card:
Whisper White A4 Cardstock (106549)
Raspberry Ripple A4 Cardstock
Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper (130145)
Raspberry Ripple Classic Stampin' Pad
Raspberry Ripple Stitched Satin Ribbon (126845)

Triple Banner Punch (138292)
Extra Large Oval Punch (2" x 1 3/8")
